I’m not the most tech-savvy person, but setting up the UGREEN Desktop NAS was surprisingly easy. The instructions were clear and simple to follow, so I had no trouble getting it up and running. The tricky part was figuring out how to actually use it—that took me a few hours since I’m new to this kind of thing.It looks sleek and doesn’t take up much space in my office, which is a big plus. More importantly, it’s a great secure storage solution. My laptop’s hard drive was getting overloaded, so having a dedicated place to store all my files has been a lifesaver. I also love that it works seamlessly with my Mac, and having just one app for everything makes life so much easier.Basically, it’s like having my own personal cloud, but without worrying about anyone else accessing my files. I’ve also started moving my personal photos from other cloud services onto it, which gives me peace of mind knowing everything is safe in one place.I never thought I’d need a NAS, but in today’s world, where data security is such a big issue, it just makes sense. The transfer speeds are really fast, making it easy to move large amounts of data quickly. I’m still figuring out all the features, but so far, I’m really happy with it!

I tend to have media stored all over the place on external and flash drives as no single drive is ever big enough. It always worries me that I could lose so much if something was to fail. So when I saw this Ugreen NAS DX2800 Media storage hub it looked like the answer.Straight out of the point of sale box it looked the business. A contemporary gunmetal grey casing in aluminium with 2 bays. You have to buy hard drives as it isn't supplied with them. It will accommodate up to 64TB of storage and this is the entry level for Ugreen units! However, you will need deep pockets to buy drives of that level. I prefer to start smaller and expand as and when I can afford to. An instruction book is included in English, German and Chinese.Setup is very straightforward. There is a power adapter lead supplied with a UK 3 pin plug and a CAT7 ethernet cable. This should be connected directly to your router, hardwired not wi-fi. You have a number of choices regarding the drives to install and full instructions of how to do this are supplied. You can install both 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives, the latter just clips into position. It will also take M.2 SSDs. Keys are supplied to lock the drives in place. New drives are recommended as the storage unit will automatically format the drive wiping anything stored on them.At the heart of this storage unit is 12th Gen 4-Core Intel Processor, Intel N100 Quad-core CPU, 8GB DDR5 RAM - the list goes on. All this gives you fantastic performance which is helped if you have fast internet.You can access the hub via your smartphone. Control is through a very slick looking 'UGREEN NAS' app available from your favourite app store. There are both android and iPhone versions available. You will need to create an account and start the initial set up over the internet. You also have manual access and HDMI, USB-A and USB-C ports are on board. But you can set up almost any device to connect throught Windows, Mac, even smart TV's. A high level of security comes with this also.The storage unit comes with a 2 year warranty.The potential for this equipment is huge and I'm looking forward to discovering more about what it can do over the coming weeks. I would have no hesitation in recommending this to you.

If you have your data stored on various different devices, or on external hard drives, this is a brilliant way to consolidate all your files in one place so they can be accessed through your Local Area Network (LAN) on multiple devices from anywhere. Essentially it is like having your own personal cloud storage system. You can download or upload huge files at up to 2.5GbE on your local network, but if you want to access your files via the internet, the download/upload speed will be dependent upon the speed of your network provider's service. This is UGREEN's entry level NAS, and is limited to a 2.5GbE ethernet connection, but some of the other higher end UGREEN Nasync devices are capable of a 10GbE connection, which is blisteringly quick if you have super fast broadband. It is relatively easy to set up once you have fitted your hard disk drives. This particular model has two disk ports which are easy to access, although the two M.2 NVMe slots are situated on the inside left of port 1 and a bit fiddly to get at. You need to download the app which is available for Windows, MacBook, Android and iOS, connect the unit to your router with the included ethernet cable, and create a user account and password on the app. Then just follow the instructions in the app to complete the setup. The app is easy to navigate and includes a file manager, access to download other apps such as Photos Music and Video Centre, a Storage Manager for creating disk volumes and various other tweaks for setting RAID parameters etc. This entry model, ships with a 12th generation Intel N100 processor with 4 cores and 4 threads, which isn't exactly a "beast" of a processor, but is perfectly adequate to keep the system moving smoothly without any lag. It also ships with 8Gb of DDR5 RAM which is accessible via a panel on the base of the unit and can be upgraded to a total of 16Gb. The total data storage capacity of this NAS is 64Tb with all four disk ports occupied, including the M.2 slots. More than enough for my data, but if you need more storage space, UGREEN offer a selection of larger capacity models with higher end Intel i5 processors capable of storing up to a whopping 208Tb. The build quality of this device is excellent. It has an aluminium alloy case with a matt gunmetal finish, and presents very much as a premium product with a reassuring weight to it. The slick minimalist design would fit into any room with any decor without drawing too much attention to itself. All the products in UGREEN's range of NASync devices have the same build quality, from this entry level device, to the more expensive models, which is nice to see. Once set up, you can create different user accounts for family members, and create shared folders for others to access with a link over the internet. The AI system can group your photos in terms of categories or people, and you can use the Universal Search app to easily access files or folders.
